Byrd
& Street
With harmonies tight
like the Everly Brothers and Kathys
sweet pure voice, a perfect contrast to Tommys
earthy soulful sound, Byrd & Street have
been making music together since 2001. Their
vocals have been likened to Lyle Lovette
meets Alison Krause and their music, real
Americana done with

integrity
and soul, is a rich blend of award-winning
original songs and covers by such greats as Hank
Williams, John Prine, Townes Van Zandt, Cyndi
Lauper, and Peggy Lee.
Before joining forces with
Kathy Street, Tommy Byrd played with The Geezinslaws,
sang harmony with Willie Nelson, and won numerous
songwriting awards, including the Song of Austin.
Kathy sang with folk and
pop groups, and performed in musicals and cabarets.
They continue to win awards,
most recently taking first place in the KVET jingle
contest. Byrd and Street won the Top Country song
in 2006 and the Best Lyrics Award in 2008 in the
Austin Songwriters Group competitions. Tommy was
a New Folk Finalist 2009 Kerrville Folk Festival
and together they were nominated for Duo/Group

songwriter Shake Russell
has been entertaining audiences with his unique,
Americana style of folk-rock. If you're a true
Texan, then Shake Russell's music has touched
your life in some way. If you're not, it happened
without your knowing it. Over seventeen million
copies of this Texan's songs have been bought
while being recorded by such distinguished artists
as Clint Black, Ricky Skaggs, Waylon Jennings,
Jessi Colter, Carolyn Dawn Johnson and others.
In 1986 Shake wrote the regional favorite, "Traveling
Texas" to commemorate the Texas sesquicentennial.
Shake's band members, fellow
veterans of the Texas music scene, are Doug Floyd
on mandolin and Mike Roberts on acoustic bass. The
trio's contemporary acoustic arrangements, coupled
with melodic three-part harmonies, create a unique,
modern sound for those classic Shake Russell songs.
We are always thrilled when
Shake chooses to play our humble establishment.
Please join us for what is always a great "shakin"
show.

- Saturday
Ken
Gaines and Greg Klyma
On stage tonight ... two very talented, popular
entertainers who have been around the block a
few times. They are each well known in the Texas
music scene as powerful singers and creative,
prolific songwriters of the magic we call music!
Ken Gaines has "a beautifully clear
voice and articulate guitar accompaniment."
His lyrics are both powerful and poetic and highlight
his skills as a story teller and observer of life.
Ken's latest CD, Catfish Moon, recorded
at Songdog Records and co-produced by Bill Ward,
has been selling like hotcakes. He was the recipient
in 2005 for the Texas Music Awards - Singer/Songwriter
of the Year and the My Texan Award. He's a proud
member of MyTexasMusic.com.
Born in Buffalo on his father's bowling night, songwriter, musician, entertainer Greg Klyma grew up in a blue-collar town with a blue-collar work ethic and an appreciation of blue-collar fun. He has matured into man of homespun, timeless elegance, often clad in vintage wear, and telling stories with a delightful precision of language. The stories blend seamlessly into songs, evoking a flavor of Mark Twain, Woody Guthrie, and David Sedaris. Greg is a multi instrumentalist playing guitar, mandolin, harmonica, and piano. He is the recipient of numerous music awards and has 5 albums to his credit.
You will not want these guys to stop playing at
the end of the night. This show is highly recommended!

Kevin
Higgins with
Barbara Malteze
Kevin Higgins is an award-winning
Contemporary Folk/Americana singer-songwriter.
His new CD, Find Your Shine, was
#61 on the Americana Chart after only three weeks.
Kevin, a past New Folk Finalist
and main stage Kerrville Folk Festival performer
has just been nominated for two Texas Music Awards:
|
|
Singer-Songwriter
of the Year and Song of the Year "Find
Your Shine." He already has five TMA's
in his collection.
His music is nothing like
you've heard before, yet it is distinctly "Texas"...or,
should I say "West Texas"?
Kevin writes:
" I have lived on the streets and I have
worked in luxury hotels. I have run drugs across
the border and I've chauffeured dignitaries. I
have battled my addictions and managed nightclubs.
I have faded to black and watched as my name rolled
by on the credits. I have been beaten down by
the status quo and hammered nails in the hot Texas
sun. I have had my heart ravaged and I have lavished
in love. I have left my footprints across America
and barely scratched the surface. I have paid
my dues and chalked it all up as experience. All
told, I have probably held over 30 different job
descriptions from Texas to California.
But, at the end of every
working day, I saved a little of myself for my
music."
Kevin, along with his wife
and bandmate, Barbara Malteze, reside in Austin,
Texas. Performing together for over 9 years, theirs
is a love story written on the backroads of Texas.
The couple are the founding members of The Cosmic
Dust Devils, a popular Texas band that performs
well over 100 dates a year.
Awards/Notables:
2000 Kerrvile Folk Fest (New Folk Finalist)
2001 Kerrville Folk Fest (Main Stage performer)
2006 Texas Music Awards:
"Song of the Year" (Walk On), "Album
of the Year" (Gathering Dust), "Vocal
Duo of the Year" (Higgins/Malteze)
2006 & 2007 Texas Music Awards:
(Barbara Malteze) "Female Vocalist of the
Year"; 18th Annual Janis Joplin B'day Bash,
Port Arthur Civic Center, (headliner).
2009: SongwriterUniverse "Best Song of the
Month", April '09 (Amazing Sense of Calm)

George
Ensle & Greg
Whitfield
George Ensle, (pronounced
Enslee), began songwriting and performing as
a teenager in the late sixties in his hometown,
Houston at such venerable clubs as the Sand
Mountain Coffeehouse and the original Old Quarter,
sharing stages with legendary folk greats, Townes
Van Zandt, Guy Clark, and Jerry Jeff Walker.
While touring the club, college coffeehouse
and festival circuit, he was awarded a prestigious
Federal Government Grant to be an Artist-In-Schools,
teaching songwriting and the creative process
to elementary schoolchildren. George has wonsongwriting
awards from The American Song Festival, the
Kerrville Folk Festival, the Music Umbrella,
and the Austin Songwriters Group, and has released
five albums in the U.S. and Europe. In 2008
he was nominated for Singer/Songwriter of the
Year by the Texas Music Academy. |
|
George has a unique fingerpicking
style originating from his classical guitar training
and honed over the years to flow seamlessly with
his lyrics. He has been called a "songpainter,"
capturing "lifescapes", with storysong
portraits of "real people making it in the
real world."
Greg Whitfield is an veteran
studio musician from Austin, TX as well as a sought-after
live performer. He has shared the stage as a guitarist
with Gary P. Nunn, Steve Fromholtz, Kevin Fowler,
Pauline Reese, and Ray Price, and has recorded
extensively in both Dallas and Austin. Whitfield
is also a two-time winner of the Austin Songwriting
competition.
